If you are a business in any of our communities, you need to Register with us to receive your drinking water, wastewater, recycled water and trade waste services.
After you have registered with us, you will also need to fill out the Tradewaste Assessment Form and we will then notify you of your requirements and responsibilities.
Food waste like cooking oils, grease and food solids, is produced daily by the many food outlets in our communities. If this waste were directly discharged into our sewer it would cause blockages and overflows and would overload our sustainable water network.
It is essential as a retail food business you understand your obligations to responsibly dispose of your food waste. In the first instance make sure you seek the advice of an informed plumber who can correctly install grease traps and other devices that will help you manage and dispose of greasy wastewater.
Grease traps prevent damaging oils, grease and food waste from entering the sustainable water network. If you are producing tradewaste, you will need to install a Flow Systems authorised grease trap. Please refer to authorised pre-treatment listings documentation HERE.
All wastewater from food preparation areas, floor wastes, kitchen sinks, dishwashers and garbage areas must flow to this grease trap.
Grease traps must be installed as close to the source of grease as possible, this prevents the pipes from the kitchen to the grease trap from clogging with grease. If you can’t avoid long pipes you will need to use a heat trace or increase the gradient.
Grease traps should drain by gravity to the sewer. If this is not possible, the grease trap should drain to a pump well, and wastewater pumped to the sewer from there. Do not do this for convenience, as it is more difficult and expensive to manage.
